VHG – Vision: Express Yourself – Part 2

VISION FACILITATORS

  1. Vision & Buildings: Horse & Carts
    • Summary:
When we speak of vision, it is important to differentiate between the vision and the facilitators of that vision. Often, buildings are used to depict vision; however, we must be careful to recognize that vision always goes before buildings. Like the adage about the horse and the cart, buildings are always carts for the vision, while vision is that driving picture of what is to be done to effect change, both now and into the future. When it comes to vision, horses must go before carts.
    • Discussion Questions:
      • Discuss in practical terms why it is important to pursue vision before the pursuit of a building.
      • Discuss what can happen when any organization comes into the possession of a building(s) without a clear sense of what their vision is. How can we avoid this?
  2. Vision & Constraint: Narrow Places
    • Summary:
Vision is a precise picture of what is to be done to effect change, both now and into the future. There are clear parameters around a vision allowing for its fulfillment. When in pursuit of a vision, nothing can be done except that which advances the vision. Vision by nature constrains us, setting us in narrow places. Successful organizations learn how to operate in narrow places.
    • Discussion Questions:
      • In a Spirit-filled environment, how do we ensure that we are doing what the vision requires and not simply what we want to do?
      • What are some things that we can do to ensure that we’re hearing the voice of God to avoid operating in our own echo chamber?
  3. Vision & Loyalty: End-Gamers
    • Summary:
Vision requires time to arrive at fulfillment. Waiting is a necessary component of serving a vision; however, it is not the easiest thing to do. Believing in vision requires faith and faithfulness. Those who are willing to wait will always be justified in the end.
    • Discussion Questions:
      • What can we do to develop and demonstrate faithfulness toward God’s vision?
      • How can we measure value when it comes to God’s vision against our temporary desires?

Prayer: Holy Spirit, Constrain Us To Be Faithful To God’s Vision, In Jesus’ Name.
