VHG DISCUSSION: HOW WE CHANGE THE WORLD – PART 1
THE CLARION CALL TO BE CHANGE AGENTS
1. Jesus Calls His Followers Salt & Light:
Summary:
In the words of Jesus, those who follow Him are “the salt of the earth and the light of the
world.” Perhaps the Lord chooses these two elements as descriptions of His followers
because of their preservative properties and illuminating qualities. Followers of Jesus are in
this world to preserve divine truth and to illuminate Jesus’ qualities.
Discussion Questions:
• List and discuss specific ways that we can be salt and light in the global village.
• What are divine truths, and what are some of the ways that we can preserve these
truths in an ever-changing world?
2. Inside & Outside Agents:
Summary:
In both the Old & New Testaments, God’s people are called priests. Priests are those who
act as go-betweens, mediating or ministering between God and His world. Today’s
believers must embrace that everyone, not just some, is in ministry unto God and this
world.
Discussion Questions:
• How can we be intentional about having the best priests ministering in the
sanctuary?
• How can we be intentional in ensuring that the best priests are ministering in
spheres of influence outside of the sanctuary?
3. Modelling Jesus Without Fear:
Summary:
Followers of Jesus must never be afraid or ashamed to declare Him to this world. If we deny
Him before people, He will deny us before His Father. With humility, grace, and boldness,
our work is to exegete or lead Him out to a world that desperately needs Him but doesn’t
know it.
Discussion Questions:
• List and discuss some practical ways in which we can show Jesus Christ to this
world.
• Describe the gospel of Jesus Christ in simple words, then discuss ways in which we
can share this powerful message to a lost and dying world.
