VHG – Vision Casting – Part 1: Occupation

VHG DISCUSSION: CASTING VISION [AGAIN] – PART 1

Summary:
The vision of Rhema is one that calls the believer to live and express God’s kingdom in all areas of society. This vision begins with people who clearly understand what it means to “occupy” [Luke 19:13] and what requirements each believer must embrace to effectively occupy in this world. In Scripture, the term for “occupy” is used to describe business affairs in very practical ways. In short, business that can be seen. This is what Jesus did during his earthly ministry: the business of the Father [Luke 2:49], and everyone saw it. If we’re to carry out the affairs of heaven on earth, we must first know what it means to be Christ-centred, Spirit-led, and Kingdom-driven. Our business must be about Jesus, [John 3:30], guided by the Holy Spirit, [Rom. 8:14], and express heaven’s culture and ways in this world [Matt. 6:10]. This is the mandate and life’s work of all believers, wherever they are in life. Let’s discuss this wonderful calling and privilege of occupying until our Lord returns.
Discussion Questions:

  • According to Scripture, Jesus Christ must be the one who increases, and the believer is to be the one who decreases. In simple terms, our lives must point to Christ, not to ourselves, so others can see Christ in us. This is not an easy feat in an individualistic age. Discuss practical ways we can ensure Christ is increasing in our daily lives. What hindrances keep Jesus from increasing in a believer’s life?
  • The Heart Conclusion – It is the heart of our Senior Pastor that all of God’s people learn the discipline of self-sacrifice and the wondrous grace of a Christ-centred lifestyle wherein Jesus is the one that others see shining through them, [Col. 1:27].
  • According to Scripture, one of the chief desires of prayer is “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven,” [Matt. 6:10]. This is a theological way of saying that God’s culture and His ways be lived and practiced on earth, which, when done, will cause us to experience “heaven on earth.” Now, this is easier said than done because of the reality of sin and the devil. List and discuss some simple yet practical ways that we can bring the culture of heaven to earth in our daily lives. How might the devil and unbelievers oppose these ways?
  • The Heart Conclusion – It is the heart of our Senior Pastor that all of God’s people are intentionally and actively working to interject God’s heavenly culture and ways into their daily affairs, such that everyone and everywhere on the earth is constantly being transformed by the presence of the kingdom of God, [Ps. 103:22].
