THE SECRET PLACE

A WELLSPRING OF LIFE

PSALM 91:1–2; PSALM 36:9

1. The Secret Place: The Hidden Source of Life

  • We may not understand every circumstance, but we can know the One who governs all things. Some dimensions of God are revealed to those willing to go deeper. [Job 38:33]
  • The secret place is where we are alone with God, in personal communion with Him; where the God of Scripture becomes the God we know by experience. To dwell (yashab) is to remain. [Psalm 91:1–2]
  • A wellspring is an inexhaustible source from which life continually flows. [Psalm 36:9]
2. Presence Before Assignment

  • Jesus called the twelve first to be with Him, then to be sent: be with Him, be formed by Him, and be sent by Him. [Mark 3:13–15]
  • The secret place requires time, worship, sacrifice, surrender and obedience.
3. What Happens in the Secret Place?

  • Brokenness — God searches and transforms the hidden condition of our hearts. Remain humble, repentant and tender before Him. [Isaiah 57:15; Psalm 139:23]
  • Mercy — God’s compassion and forgiveness are an inexhaustible, fresh supply available each day. [Psalm 86:5; Lamentations 3:22–23]
  • Rest and Renewal — We withdraw from life’s demands to commune with God and receive fresh strength for what lies ahead. Time in His presence is never wasted. [Mark 1:35; Psalm 62:1; Isaiah 40:31]
  • Divine Illumination, Wisdom and Direction — When human reasoning reaches its limits, God reveals what is hidden and gives wisdom for the way forward. [Daniel 2:1–22, 28]
4. The Wellspring of Life and Purpose

  • When the secret place becomes our dwelling place, it becomes the source from which life, peace, strength, wisdom, mercy and direction flow. [Psalm 36:9]
  • The divine order: Presence → Brokenness → Mercy → Rest and Renewal → Revelation → Formation → Assignment.
5. The Call

  • Do not seek only what God can give you; seek God Himself. Do not seek only His hand; seek His face.
  • Do not merely visit His presence — dwell there.
